Idaho City Days and Other Events

Throughout the year, Idaho City holds events that draw in visitors from miles around. From the widely recognized Idaho City Days to ICA sanctioned rodeos, these events can be great times to plan your vacation around, as there is plenty of fun and excitement for visitors of all ages.

Here’s what you can expect from some of the most popular Idaho City events.

Idaho City Days

Idaho City Days is an open-air festival that is widely considered to be one of the premiere events here. It’s typically held annually during the first week of October and allows visitors to experience the best of what our town has to offer.

The entirety of the town is essentially turned into a massive concert and street fair, taking advantage of the traditionally mild October weather. There’s plenty of great food from food trucks in the region and you’ll be able to pair it with excellent local beer.

While the specific attractions may change from year to year, here are some things that you can count on:

  • Plenty of live music and poetry recitals from local artists
  • Unique shopping opportunities from vendors, including art, antiques and more
  • Family-fun activities throughout the day
  • Late night partying at the Gold Mine Grill and Saloon
  • And much more!

Idaho City Chili Cook Off

One of the longest running traditions here in Idaho City, the Chili Cook Off is the place to be if you want to try some of the best chili in the entire state. Every chili is made on-site the morning of, from scratch. Up to 20 contestants (depending on the year) compete to win either the People’s Choice or the Judges’ Choice awards. Only one team in the event's history has managed to win both during the same event: The Gold Mine Grill and Saloon team.

You’ll also find special vendors, live entertainment, as well as a silent auction during this annual event in March. The “ticket” price is the purchase of an affordable, stylish commemorative bowl that you can sample chili in and show off to your friends later.

Idaho City Rodeos

Rodeos are one of the best places to go to see the thrill of competition of man vs. beast, and Idaho City is one of the best places to see a rodeo.

There are two major rodeos held in our mountain town. The first is the Gold Dust Rodeo, a 2 day rodeo event held at the end of June and is a long standing tradition in the community.

The second is the Jack Pine roundup, held in August. The Jack Pine roundup is a newcomer to the rodeo scene, but what an impression it’s made! It’s already known as both the largest rough stock event in the entirety of the Idaho Cowboys Association, as well as having the biggest payouts for cowboys and cowgirls.

The Gold Mine Hotel as well as the Grill and Saloon have been proud supporters of the rodeos over the years, serving as a headquarters in addition to hosting afterparties.
