One of the most popular hikes in the area can be found on the Crooked River Trail, which takes you along the edge of the Crooked River as well as steep canyon walls. The first few miles of the trail sees a fair amount of foot traffic from tourists, so if you are really seeking solitude, try traveling past the 5 mile marker.

Water Activities in Boise National Forest

With over 9,600 miles of rivers and streams combined with roughly 15,000 acres of lakes and reservoirs, Boise National Forest offers a vast array of opportunities for water recreation.


Sandy Point at the Lucky Peak is especially popular for looking for fun in the sun. On top of being one of the most popular places around to swim, there are also paddleboard rentals available. The area also features showers, restrooms, and 2 sand volleyball courts.


If you are looking for a place to swim that sees less traffic, try Robie Creek. This area is especially great for families with small children as the waters here are shallow, allowing children of all ages to have fun in the water.


For those looking for something more adventurous, there are plenty of rafting opportunities available along the Payette River.
